Start your own website and make money

I have always wanted to write about starting your own website, and how to make money from your website. Like you we have all come across loads of websites claiming they make hundreds or thousands a week!
Either from blogging, creating an ebook or an e-commerce site. Mmmm... is my only response, however if you tap in your browser 'how much does your website make online' or ask the question in some forums, you will find a whole different response. Some mention they make 2p a day or £100 in 6 months. That does sound rather worrying but it gave me and may give you a starting point and something to aim for! If you really want to start your own website and make money!

I personally started my own website back in January 2008. Not this one, another one! (Technically this is my first blog, anyway. )I remember even creating a business plan to help plan my website. I sat there for a few weeks on my PC and even went to bed in the early hours. I eventually hit the publish button and waited for the traffic and visitors to flow.

Starting your own website is  a learning curve, seo, keywords, meta tags, domain name and so on!

Which is why when I hit the publish button and didn't receive any traffic or visitors, you kind of go into a mad panic. Desperate for sales you start looking into buying visitors, stupid link exchanges and wasting tons of money on google adwords.
As my google adwords budget began to run dry and I was desperate for traffic, so I decided to think like google thinks. Google makes money from other peoples websites.  So that's exactly what I did.The more websites I created will bring in an income and direct traffic to my websites.I  created a new website ( Uk family attractions ) which would in turn direct traffic to my previous website. It worked! I got traffic which I didn't have to pay tons of money for.  However I started to make more money through google adsense on UKfamily attractions, rather than sales on my previous site! I soon realised why, for starters my second website was more seo tailored. Not because I'm an expert, far from it. But you know a lot more second time around.

  • Good domain name

  • Easier to create a new website when you know how

  • Better page titles and so on

  • Sometimes it makes better sense to stick to co.uk rather than .com
I have now made about 7 websites in total, I read about a guy who has made 140 websites and is now a millionaire. I thought I could do that but now I am struggling to keep up with maintaining 7 websites. The keyword i find i keep saying to myself is FOCUS. You may agree, is it easier and more cost effective to make 1 really good website, rather than loads of sites!

If you want to make money online, like all businesses it's all about what your mission statement is, what do you want to achieve. Do you want to create £100 a month or like me £500 a month or increase your sales or visitors to your site or blog!

Once you have figured that out then start planning and FOCUS!
It can be done, for me i have created websites that bring in a passive income. I don't have to be there all day writing or researching content to add. ( I'm a mum with four kids) I just check my stats and my affilate networks to see how much money I have made!
Iike anything in life it takes hard work and plenty of time. For me there are still loads I need to do and learn. But I realise I obviously know more than some because I make a lot more than 2p a day!

Find out my top tips and how you can make money online!
